Sharp, Pioneer optical disc JV launches (Corporate Dealmaker)

Sharp Corp. and Pioneer Corp. have launched their Blu-ray disc joint venture. The Japanese electronics makers announced the deal to merge their optical disc businesses into a new venture in April. Both firms were at the time struggling.
